| A night out with the Kalahari Conservation Society and the Botswana President |
|
On the 13th November 2009 the Kalahari Conservation Society had their annual fundraising dinner and dance at the Grand Palm Convention Centre in Gaborone. His Excellency the President of Bostwana Lt. General Khama, patron of the Society, was the guest of honour. The Society had asked Mothers for All to make gifts for the over 400 attendees at the dinner. Mali Sobotta, the Central District co-ordinator, and two Mothers from the Palapye and Mahalapye groups, also set up a magnificent display outside the dining hall and were on hand to explain the project. The printed programme for the dinner contained the Mothers for All mission statment and the Master of Ceremonies urged the diners to support the organisation. His Excellency the President showed a real interest in the project and happily agreed to be photographed with the extremely proud Mothers, Philomina and Cynthia.
A very big thank you to the Kalahari Conservation Society for not only ordering our products but also giving our organisation such positive exposure. The Kalahari Conservation Society, whose activities are oriented towards wildlife management as well as integrated biodiversity conservation programmes, is the oldest environmental non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Botswana. The Society was formed in 1982 in recognition of the pressures on Botswana’s wildlife and the general environment. It has been effective in assisting government in policy making as well as collaborating with government departments, other NGOs and the private sector to help conserve Botswana’s environment and wildlife resources. Since its establishment, the Society has grown rapidly, receiving recognition both within Botswana and internationally. The Society also continues to encourage and mobilize local communities and industries to participate in the management of natural resources responsibly.
